Rhythm · attention · return

Spirit Drum

Listen, attend, return.

A guided rhythm and reflection practice built on original drum-led audio, timed stages and a private journal. Documented context about Evenki drum traditions sits beside it, clearly kept apart from the modern exercise.

What you can do

I

Two listening practices

The listening journey moves through intention, listening, an imagined or remembered landscape, and return. Rhythm and silence is a shorter study of how attention changes when sound stops.

II

Timed stages

Choose a session from 1 to 60 minutes. A stage countdown shows where you are; pause, resume, end or mark a moment at any point.

III

Original audio

Newly composed, synthesized four-stage percussion with volume and mute controls. Audio stops when you leave the practice screen.

IV

A private journal

Every session is recorded automatically. Add reflections, edit them later, and export the whole journal as a JSON file if you choose.

History & boundaries

What comes from the record, and what is new

EVIDENCEFrom the historical record

  • Evenki traditions are living and locally diverse. The app points to a collaborative Pitt Rivers Museum project that includes Evenki knowledge holders.
  • Documented ethnography describes the drum as a possible means of travel, with meanings that differ between communities.

MODERNMade for this app

  • The percussion and the guided sequence are newly composed. They are not a traditional song, an initiation, or a recording of an Evenki ceremony.
  • The app does not represent a lineage or claim any endorsement. Images and landscapes you notice are treated as your own experience, not proof of an encounter.

Sources named in the app: Pitt Rivers Museum, Journey in Evenki Cosmology · Russian Museum of Ethnography, drum and baton
