What you can do

I

The ancestral table

Bring someone to mind, or leave the table unnamed. Recall one ordinary memory, choose a symbolic offering such as water, a flower or an act of care, and sit in silence.

II

A letter of remembrance

A second practice helps you compose a few private words for a remembered person, to keep in your journal.

III

Timed and gentle

Stage countdowns for sessions of 1 to 60 minutes, original ambient sound with volume and mute, and the option to pause at any moment.

IV

Private by design

Names, memories and letters stay on your device. Nothing requires a reply, and nothing is sent anywhere.

History & boundaries

What comes from the record, and what is new

EVIDENCEFrom the historical record

  • In Akkadian, kispu denotes a funerary offering, part of Mesopotamian care for the dead (ORACC lexicon).
  • Research discusses periodic offerings for the dead in ancient Mesopotamia. Ancestor care should not be equated with divination or with expecting replies.

MODERNMade for this app

  • Names, memories and the symbolic offering prompts are modern remembrance, not a reconstruction of one ancient ceremony.
  • The app makes no claim of contact with the dead.
