What the app does

Recreates the Assyrian rite in which seven sage figures were formed and set about the house, each named and addressed in turn, ending in an audience with all seven.

Ways in: The Name, repeated, The seal and the gaze, Chant and drone. Every session is carried on binaural sound tuned toward theta, the slow rhythm of the edge of sleep that these rites were built to reach. More on the state.

Why the rite works

The apkallu were the fish-cloaked sages said to have brought the arts of civilisation up from the deep before the flood. The Assur tablet treats them as present guardians, reachable by exact procedure. It is one of the most complete step-by-step contact rituals surviving from Mesopotamia.
